All Grads Fashion Show To Highlight Students
About 30 students, from multiple schools, will take part in the All Grads Rhythm & Fashion Show, a production inspired by events from 2008, the year many of them were born.
The show will feature high school graduates from across the island showcasing outfits of their own creation in a production organised by educator Chauntee Thompson.
It is themed around major events that made headlines in 2008, including Barack Obama’s election as US president, the global financial crisis and advances in smartphone technology.
Projections reflecting those events will appear during the production.
Students were invited to take part through social media.
Participants include representatives from CedarBridge Academy, Berkeley Institute, Mount Saint Agnes Academy, Saltus, Somersfield Academy, Warwick Academy and home schools.
For Ms Thompson, the project is about more than fashion.
“I wanted to create a platform where all students could take part in fashion shows,” Ms Thompson told Bernews.
“It’s been beautiful seeing all the schools come together, with the students meeting each other and networking.
“They now have great relationships with students from all over the island.”
Ms Thompson launched her first student fashion show at CedarBridge, where she previously taught, in 2015.
The latest production includes coordinated group movements and visual elements alongside the students’ designs.
“I didn’t know I had this talent to create these abstract visuals – we do a lot of shapes and synchronised movements with the models,” said Ms Thompson, who now teaches Spanish at Francis Patton Primary School.
“It’s very entertaining – it’s like going to watch a dance recital as opposed to a traditional fashion show.”
Entertainment personalities Mr Fotogenik and Shauntae Todd will serve as masters of ceremonies.
Ms Thompson’s sister, fashion designer Channice Thompson, assisted with the styling of the production, helping students develop their outfits and providing creative guidance throughout the process.
“My sister has created a style board for the students, which they can use for inspiration,” Ms Thompson said.
“She’s helped them one-on-one to help them create their looks.”
Ms Thompson said she hopes the event will become an annual fixture.
Her parents Gladstone and Zina Thompson have also assisted with the production.
The Earl Cameron Theatre will host performances on Friday at 7pm and on Saturday and Sunday at 3pm.
Tickets are available through ptix.bm.
