Camp Connect Lottery Re-run After Issues
Following a review of the initial Camp Connect lottery “issues were identified” and to “ensure fairness and accuracy for all applicants, the lottery was re-run once these issues were identified,” the government said today.
A spokesperson said, “The Government of Bermuda wishes to advise the public of updates with the Camp Connect registrations and allocations to families.
“Following a review of the initial Camp Connect lottery, which was provided by Paradise Mobile, issues were identified with the results that affected the allocation of camp placements. Specifically, some camp weeks became oversubscribed, while some families were assigned non-consecutive camp weeks, which could have created childcare and scheduling challenges for parents. To ensure fairness and accuracy for all applicants, the lottery was re-run once these issues were identified.
“Overall, of the 1,055 applicants, 169 parents [16%], representing 232 children, were affected by the revised allocations. The Department of Sport and Recreation worked diligently throughout the weekend to review placements, identify available spaces and minimise the impact on families.”
Minister for the Cabinet Office and Digital Innovation Diallo Rabain said, “We understand the disappointment and frustration this situation has caused for affected families. Once the issues with the allocation process were identified, staff worked quickly to review placements, identify available spaces and minimise disruption to parents and children.
“I would also like to acknowledge the Department of Sport and Recreation team, who worked throughout the weekend to contact families, review options and provide support during a challenging situation. Their commitment to assisting families and resolving issues has been greatly appreciated.
“While this outcome is regrettable, the decision to re-run the lottery was necessary to ensure a fair and consistent process for all applicants. We thank parents for their patience and understanding as we continue to address any outstanding concerns and improve the service moving forward.”
The spokesperson said, “The Government regrets the disruption caused and remains committed to keeping families informed as the process continues.
“Parents requiring further assistance can contact osshelp@gov.bm or 907-6767.
“The Government thanks the community for its patience and cooperation as improvements continue to be made to this digital service, while ensuring every child has the opportunity to enjoy a safe, rewarding and memorable summer camp experience.”
