Cal Waldron: Bermuda Focused On Belize

Bermuda will turn their attention to tomorrow’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Qualifier A match against Belize after rain washed out their opening game against the Bahamas at the North Field, National Sports Centre, today [June 21].

The Bahamas were drafted in as Bermuda’s opponents after a late schedule change caused by travel delays affecting Brazil.

Bermuda and the Bahamas shared the points from the fixture.

The earlier encounter between Belize and Panama was also abandoned because of rain.

Bermuda are scheduled to face Belize at the same venue tomorrow at 10.30am, with Brazil taking on Panama in the 2.30pm match.

The group winner will advance to the Regional Final next year.

Cal Waldron, the Bermuda coach, said his side are already looking ahead to their next assignment.

“Unfortunately, today was a washout,” he told Bernews.

“Nobody was able get in any cricket. Hopefully, tomorrow the weather co-operates and we’re able to get the covers off and get a match underway.

“We will look to formalise a strategy for Belize, taking into consideration some of the things we need to do to get the win and a positive net run-rate.

“We will look at all the scenarios to help us finish top of the table as we hunt for the one position available.

“We will select a team that can go out and carry out our mission of claiming a win with a good net run-rate.”
