Cal Waldron, the Bermuda cricket coach, praised his side after they advanced to the Regional Final by winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Sub-Regional Qualifier.

Bermuda finished the tournament unbeaten, sealing top spot with a 146-run victory over Brazil at the North Field, National Sports Centre, on Saturday [June 27].

They also defeated Belize and Panama after their opening match against the Bahamas was abandoned because of rain.

“It was a good tournament for us to finish undefeated,” Waldron told Bernews.

“We move on to the next qualifying phase and will now plan for that and implement the things we need to work on.”

Waldron also praised Delray Rawlins for his 121 against Brazil and highlighted the bowling of Luke Horan, who took four wickets for 13 runs.

“Delray scored an outstanding hundred and had some support throughout his innings,” Waldron said.

“Luke Horan bowled particularly well. All the debutants – Isaiah O’Brien, Zerai Tomlinson [wicketkeeper] and Nzari Paynter – played well.

“It was a collective effort to get through as the champions.

“We will go back to the drawing board and, hopefully, we’re just as successful in the next phase.

“The players worked hard for this tournament, doing their one-on-ones, fitness sessions, technical work. It’s been a team effort to get where we are.”
