Masterworks To Open Michele Smith Exhibition
The Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art will host the opening reception for Bermudian artist Michele Smith’s solo exhibition, Bermuda Through My Palette, on Friday, July 3, with an artist talk scheduled for July 7.
A spokesperson said, “Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art invites the public to the opening reception of Bermuda Through My Palette, a new solo exhibition by Bermudian artist Michele Smith, on Friday, July 3, from 5:30–7:00 pm. The exhibition, which will remain on view through August 15, celebrates Smith’s vibrant interpretation of Bermuda through a collection of richly textured landscapes and seascapes inspired by the Island’s distinctive light, colour and atmosphere.
“Known for her bold and expressive brushwork, Smith captures the essence of Bermuda through an impressionistic style that combines layers of acrylic and oil paint with dynamic palette knife techniques. Beginning with loose plein air watercolour studies, she develops larger works that evoke the mood, energy and ever-changing character of the island.”
“Bermuda’s unique light, shadow and colour is intrinsic in my work, and each piece represents a different time, feeling and energy,” says Smith.
The spokesperson said, “Smith’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, and in 2019 she was selected as one of twelve artists commissioned to create a large-scale work for Bermuda’s airport departure lounge. Bermuda Through My Palette brings together a body of work that reflects her deep connection to Bermuda and her ongoing exploration of colour, texture and place.
“In addition to the opening reception, visitors are invited to attend an Artist Talk with Michele Smith on Tuesday, July 7, from 5:30–7:00 pm. The event will offer audiences a closer look at her artistic process and the inspirations behind the exhibition.
