[Updating] Rain has delayed the start of Bermuda’s match against Belize in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Americas Qualifier at the North Field, National Sports Centre, today [June 22].

Bermuda’s opening game of the competition against the Bahamas was abandoned without a ball being bowled yesterday because of rain.

The earlier encounter yesterday between Belize and Panama was also abandoned.

Play is about to start and Bermuda have won the toss and decided to bowl. The match is 14-overs per side.

Captain Terryn Fray told the ICC: “We have some pressure on us as the highest-ranked side. Qualifying could come down to net run-rate depending on how the other matches go.

“It’s important we get off to a good start and bat and bowl well. We’re at home and play on this wicket quite often. We consider ourselves favourites.”

Update 1.53pm: Bermuda have defeated Belize convincingly by ten wickets in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Qualifier at the North Field, National Sports Centre.

In a rain-affected match, reduced to 12 overs each side, Belize were reduced to 45 for seven. Bermuda were set 48 [Duckworth/Lewis method] to win, with openers Onias Bascome [31] and Delray Rawlins [17] chasing down the total with ease off 5.2 overs.

In the second match today, Brazil will face Panama.
