Masterworks Art At U.S. Consulate & Govt House
Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art announced the installation of new artworks at Government House and the U.S. Consulate General in Bermuda.
A spokesperson said, “For over 20 years, Masterworks has provided works from its Permanent Collection to Government House. With the completion of renovations and return to the newly restored residence, Masterworks has curated an entirely new display comprising 38 works of art, including 30 pieces from the Masterworks Collection alongside works on loan from contemporary Bermudian artists, facilitated through the Museum.”
“We are immensely proud of this new installation, which reflects both the natural beauty of our Island and the depth and diversity of Bermuda’s visual culture,” says Dr. Sara Thom, Curatorial Researcher at Masterworks Museum. “This display continues our longstanding relationship with Government House while introducing fresh perspectives through the inclusion of works by contemporary Bermudian artists” says Jasmine Lee, Curator of Contemporary Art and Head of Operations.
The spokesperson said, “The installation of the new display coincided with the recent visit of His Majesty King Charles III. A distinguished watercolor painter and longstanding patron of the arts, Masterworks was honoured to have these works enjoyed by His Majesty, whose appreciation for creativity and cultural heritage is widely recognised.”
Governor Andrew Murdoch, said “It was a wonderful experience to work with the Masterworks team to identify a collection of artwork to display in Government House after its renovation. The impressive collection can be seen by visitors to this historic building, bringing joy to many. It feels like an extension to the Masterworks gallery, and it’s a privilege to have such wonderful pieces on loan to us.”
The spokesperson said, “In addition, Masterworks has launched a new initiative to provide artworks for the U.S. Consulate General in Bermuda. There are currently four artworks on display by a diverse range of artists. With this display, Masterworks is thrilled to bring the beauty, history and culture of Bermuda and its Permanent Collection to one of the Island’s most important diplomatic hubs.”
Antoinette Hurtado, the U.S. Consul General to Bermuda, said: “I am delighted to host pieces from the Masterworks Collection at the U.S. Consulate. The artwork highlights the cultural connections between Bermuda and the United States and shares the beauty of this incredible island with staff and visitors. We are grateful to Masterworks for the opportunity to display the talents of artists inspired by Bermuda’s rich landscapes.”
The spokesperson said, “These displays highlight the enduring importance of art in telling Bermuda’s story and underscores Masterworks Museum’s commitment to preserving and promoting the Island’s artistic legacy for residents and visitors.”
