The Ministry of Justice hosted its ‘Justice Lounge: The Welcome Brief,’ bringing together Bermuda’s law students, pupils and early-career counsel for networking and engagement with members of the justice system.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Justice’s Justice Lounge: The Welcome Brief was held on Thursday evening at Deja View Restaurant in Barr’s Bay Park, bringing together Bermuda’s law students, pupils, and early-career Counsel for an evening of conversation, networking, and engagement with members of the justice system.

“Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Senator the Hon. Kim R. Wilkerson, JP, said she was pleased with the response to the reception and particularly enjoyed the opportunity to meet and speak directly with the young people in attendance.”

“It was a pleasure to spend the evening with Bermuda’s future and emerging legal professionals. I was very encouraged by the energy in the room and by the thoughtful questions and conversations taking place throughout the evening.”

The Minister added: “These young people are the future of Bermuda’s legal profession, and it is important that they have opportunities to meet those working in the field, ask questions and gain a better understanding of the many different career paths available to them.”

The spokesperson said, “The reception provided an informal setting for attendees to engage directly with the Attorney-General, Counsel and officials from across the Ministry of Justice.

“Representatives from the Advisory and Legislative Drafting Sections of Attorney-General’s Chambers, Legal Aid Office, Office of Law Reform, Department of Public Prosecutions and the Financial Intelligence Agency took part in conversations with the young legal professionals.

“The evening was marked by lively and productive exchanges, with students and early-career lawyers having the opportunity to learn from experienced practitioners, discuss their interests and ask questions about the work carried out within the public service.

“Minister Wilkerson said the event also demonstrated the value of creating spaces where young legal professionals can build relationships with more experienced members of the profession.”

“I hope that everyone who attended left with new connections, new perspectives and a greater appreciation of the opportunities that exist within Bermuda’s justice system.

“We want our young legal professionals to know that there is a place for them in this work and that their ideas, talent and commitment are valued.”
