Volleyball: Bermuda Women Defeat St Lucia

Bermuda’s teams took to the court on the opening day of the 2026 Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association Championships in the British Virgin Islands, with the women’s team earning a victory over defending champions St Lucia.

The event recap said, “The standout result of the day saw Bermuda defeat defending champion Saint Lucia 3-2 [18-25, 25-14, 25-21, 13-25, 15-10] in a five-set thriller. The match swung back and forth throughout, before Bermuda held its composure in the decider to hand the reigning champion an opening-day loss.

“Speaking after the match, Bermuda captain Natalie Gazzard said the team knew the contest would be a challenge, having previously faced Saint Lucia twice in finals. She praised her hitters and setter for controlling the court and said she was proud of her team’s performance, adding that she felt they dominated the match overall. Gazzard also noted that the team trained hard over the summer with a ‘nothing touches the ground’ mindset.”

Bermuda’s men’s team were also in action and were defeated by Dominica in a four-set battle, and both teams are set to be in action again today.
