Bermudian Sailors Finish 4th At SAISA Invite
Bermudian sailors PJ Rodrigues and Jordan Vieira represented Eckerd College at the SAISA Open Top 6 Invite in St Petersburg, Florida, with the team ranked fourth among six colleges in the published eight-race standings.
Eckerd recorded 239 points, comprising 50 from its A Division entry, 53 from B Division and 136 from C Division.
Rodrigues partnered with William Alvarado in A Division, placing fifth in the combined 18-boat fleet. They recorded seven top-10 finishes, including second in race six and third in races three and seven.
Vieira and Avery Guck sailed Eckerd’s B Division entry, placing sixth in the combined fleet. They won race two, finished second in races four and five, and recorded five top-10 finishes overall.
The College of Charleston topped the team standings with 121 points, followed by the University of Miami on 216 and North Carolina State University on 225.
Eight races were completed on Saturday [September 26]. According to the official race report, racing began in northwesterly winds of four to six knots before changes in direction and strength prompted a lunch break after race four.
Races five through eight took place in a steadier southerly breeze of eight to 10 knots. The wind subsequently shifted west and became too light and unstable for race nine to begin.
