Narraway Finishes 37th In Philadelphia Classic
Bermudian cyclist Nicholas Narraway delivered a strong performance at the Philadelphia Cycling Classic, finishing 37th in the demanding 200-kilometre UCI 1.1 road race against a field that included riders from some of the world’s leading professional World Tour teams.
Narraway completed the race in 4:27:59, just 7 minutes and 4 seconds behind winner Tim Torn Teutenberg of Lidl-Trek. He crossed the line in a group containing several WorldTour professionals, including former Giro d’Italia winner Tao Geoghegan Hart and American rider Sean Quinn.
Only 52 riders were classified from approximately 86 starters, with Narraway emerging as the sole finisher for Competitive Edge Racing. He received a last-minute call-up from the team after another rider was injured.
Although the published results currently list Marcis Shelton, whom Narraway replaced, the 37th-place result actually belongs to the Bermudian.
“The atmosphere in Philly was amazing. The whole city was behind the race and came out to cheer,” Narraway said.
“The course was selective, with such a steep climb and some of the top teams in the world gunning for the win. It was great to measure myself against the best and see that I’m right in the mix.”
A spokesperson added, “The performance came during a challenging period for Narraway. On August 16, he was involved in a road accident in Bermuda that left him with bruising and required 9 stitches around his eye. His time-trial bike was also severely damaged and cannot be repaired in time for the upcoming UCI Road World Championships.
“The loss of the bike presents a significant challenge. Time-trial riders spend considerable time refining their position and making small adjustments to achieve the most aerodynamic fit possible while remaining within UCI regulations.
“Narraway is now adapting a team bike for the event and will begin riding it to become as comfortable as possible in the new position before competing at the World Championships.
“Before turning his full attention to Worlds, Narraway will compete in the Green Mountain Stage Race’s Pro Men category in Vermont from September 4 to 7. The four-day event will provide his final race preparation before he represents Bermuda on the international stage.”
“I’m really looking forward to GMSR. It’s a great race and I’ve enjoyed it every year I’ve done it,” Narraway said. “There are, of course, big goals and expectations, but it will also be a great tune-up for the World Championships immediately afterwards.”
A spokesperson added, “Despite the disruption caused by the accident and damage to his equipment, Narraway’s Philadelphia result demonstrated encouraging form. Finishing a highly selective UCI 1.1 race alongside established WorldTour riders, after entering as a late replacement, represents another credible performance in his 2026 international campaign.”
