Premier Donates $500 to Rise Above Bermuda

April 30, 2010

Keeping his word made on the social network Facebook, Premier Dr Ewart Brown wrote a personal check for $500 to the community action group Rise Above Bermuda.

Earlier this month Dr. Brown was stuck in the UK along with the tourism delegation due to the volcanic ash, which lead to a VSB news report on the “mystery” of his whereabouts. After the report aired Dr Brown offered to personally donate $500 to the charity of choice of an individual who correctly guessed his location.

From the Facebook account of both the Premier and his assistant Liana Hall:

According to VSB Radio News today “Mystery surrounds the whereabouts of Premier Ewart Brown who had been marooned in London from the last week due to the no fly situation created by the Icelandic volcano. He was expected by many to be on the first far-from-full British Airways flight from Gatwick along with his entourage, but although being seen in the first class lounge at Gatwick he did not make the flight. It would also have been possible for him to fly to North America from Gatwick but only Houston or New York.”

This news report has inspired a guessing game.

Do you know where your Premier is? If so accept this challenge: Guess correctly (before Sunday) by commenting below and all correct answers will be placed in a bucket to be selected by the Premier on his return. The Premier will personally donate $500 to the winner’s favourite charity.

Hint: I wouldn’t rely on the above news report for any clues….whether or not he was even at Gatwick airport is up for debate…

The winner, who correctly guessed the Premier was in Los Angeles, said she selected Rise Above Bermuda as she supports the work they are doing in the community and felt they were very deserving of the funds. Rise Above works on anti-gang and socially uplifting initiatives and was founded by Travis Caines, Wayne Caines, Dwayne Caines and Dr Lou Matthews.

Travis Caines accepted the check on Rise Above’s behalf at the Cabinet Office on Friday April 29.

Last month Dr Brown and his wife Wanda Henton-Brown donated $6,000 to the Red Cross Haiti Relief fund, after matching the $6,000 donations made by civil servants.
