September 7, 2010

Doug Jones, IBM Canada’s Cloud Computing Executive, will be the keynote speaker for a free information session on Cloud Computing on Thurs, September 16 at the Elbow Beach Hotel. Mr Jones has over 30 years of IT experience and is a certified IT Management Consultant, specializing in IT availability. The video below shows Mr Jones’s discussing Cloud Computing with the Financial Post:

Hosted by BCS, IBM’s Bermuda Agency, the organizers say the morning event will help Bermuda’s companies better understand how they can apply those benefits to their business today.

Aimed at business executives and IT professionals, the event will provide an overview of the different cloud strategies (Private, Public, or Hybrid); an analysis of workloads that are best suited for cloud computing; and the return on investment to be realized.

Aaron Smith, General Manager of BCS comments, “With recent advances in voice and data communication technologies delivering over global networks, there is a current trend where companies are moving their IT infrastructure off-island in order to achieve perceived benefits in both operating cost and technical support. However, there are still substantial costs and risks incurred in setting up and operating securely in this type of intra-company private network domain. Cloud Computing services provides secure, low cost options for many of the operating challenges faced by IT in Bermuda, and IBM has emerged as a market leader in this sector”.

The IBM Breakfast Session on Cloud Computing will be held in the Paget Suite of Elbow Beach hotel from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. To register for this event, visit www.bcs.bm or contact Celina Florendo at 298-1298 or celina “at” bm.ibm.com. Admission is free.
