September 15, 2010

The Bermuda Cricket Board has just announced that the Bermuda National Squad will return to the island tomorrow [Sept 16] due to the threat of Hurricane Igor. The team had been playing in the Canada Cricket Summer Festival in Toronto, which was due to end on September 18th.

Following a meeting of the BCB Executive today, they issued a statement saying “Due to the threat of Hurricane Igor the BCB has cancelled the remainder of the Canada tour to ensure that the squad can return to Bermuda to be with their family prior to the weekend. The team will be returning Thursday 16 September.”

Mr. Reginald Pearman, President of the BCB stated, “Due to the threat of Hurricane Igor the Bermuda Cricket Board has cancelled the remainder of the Canada tour to ensure that the squad can return to Bermuda to be with their family prior to the weekend. We are sorry to miss the games but family matters take priority when a storm of this significance and proximity threatens the island.”
The Bermuda team’s early return will cause them to miss their last two matches, as they were scheduled to play Canada tomorrow, as well as on Friday. On tour the team lost two 50 over matches both against the West Indies High Performance Team and two Twenty20 matches, one against Canada and the other against the West Indies High Performance Team.
