HMS Manchester to visit Ireland Island, Bermuda

November 24, 2010

800px-HMS_Manchester_D95HMS Manchester is due to visit Ireland Island, Bermuda between 25-26 November as part of her deployment to the Caribbean region.

The ship recently stood by the Island after Hurricane Igor past close by and the Ship’s Helicopter was able to carry out an aerial survey to confirm that there was no substantial damage. Prior to that, the ship was last here in 2009 when it participated in Bermuda’s Four Hundred Year celebrations.

Since deploying to the Caribbean in May HMS Manchester has carried out operations in support of British Overseas Territories. The ship was able to offer support in the aftermath of Hurricane Earl that passed close to British Virgin Islands. Additionally the Ship supported St Lucia in the wake of Hurricane Tomas sending teams ashore in the area of Soufriere and then stood by the British Overseas Territory of Turks & Caicos Islands but was not required due to the Hurricane weakening.

As part of her role in Counter Narcotics operations, the Ship has been working closely with the Joint Inter Agency Task Force (South) based in Key West and an embarked US Coastguard Law Enforcement Detachment team. The joint aim is to stem the flow of illegal narcotics through the Caribbean and onwards into the USA and Europe. A notable success was the recent interception of a 240 kg consignment of cocaine off the Colombian coast.

HMS Manchester is a Type 42 Batch 3 Air Defence Destroyer with a length of 141 meters and a displacement of 5200 tonnes. Her primary role is air defence and as such she is fitted with the Sea Dart missile system, other assets include her Lynx Mk 3 Helicopter, 4.5 inch gun, Phalanx close-in weapon system and 20mm guns. The ship was launched in 1980 and has a crew of 250.

This is great news. Hopefully they will moor her alongside the Kings Wharf. That way, the bouys can help with shootings at the “Pontoons” area and also have a clear shot at 42nd Street and the Happy Valley area. Of course, the Ord Road crew will be safe until it does a swing around on the South Shore.

    As a plus…they even have a crew of 250…..damn………………There goes Parkside…………………………

I get that you want to get rid of the gangs on the island but why do you have to come on here and talk about of nonsense. That would never happen ;(

“nonsense”…Surely you jest. Got a response from you did it not. Got your mind working, clicking. Go ahead and shoot the messenger once again.
