Minister Minors To Speak At ADHT Conference
This week, the Minister of Business Development and Tourism Patrice Minors will participate in the African Diaspora Heritage Trail’s [ADHT] 7th Annual International Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia from September 22-24th.
The event takes place at the World Trade and Convention Center. This year’s theme is Preserve, Promote and Protect and the conference has attracted over 280 registrations.
Minister Minors will speak as part of a panel, along with other representatives from several African Diaspora countries, on the topic “The Role of Government in ADHT Development”.
The African Diaspora Heritage Trail is an initiative spearheaded by the former Minister of Tourism the late David Allen. His vision was for the world to have an appreciation and acceptance of the heritage of Africa and peoples of the African Diaspora.
Of the occasion Minister Minors said, “I am very much looking forward to participating in the upcoming ADHT Conference. The Diaspora spans continents and oceans and joins a potentially disparate people into a cohesive unit. We see the African Diaspora Heritage Trail as providing a real link between the nations of the Diaspora.
“The aim of this Conference is to foster a deeper consciousness about Africa, the Caribbean and other nations with ties to the Diaspora. And I believe that the potential rewards from this Conference, the exchange of dialogue and the cultural and heritage awareness, will be a significant benefit for all of us.”
The Honorary Chairman of the conference is Donald Oliver. The Minister will be accompanied by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Business Development and Tourism, Michelle Khaldun who will also make a presentation on “The Business of African Diaspora Heritage”.
Other local speakers include local author and storyteller Mrs. Florenz Maxwell and Folklife Officer Dr. Kim Dismont-Robinson. A welcome address will also be delivered by the Chairman of the African Diaspora Heritage Trail Bermuda Foundation Mrs. Maxine Esdaille.
Bermuda successfully hosted the 6th Annual conference in October 2010 at the Grotto Bay Hotel. The ADHT Bermuda Foundation was formed in 2006 and is a registered charity which has oversight of the administration of the ADHT program locally and overseas.
The Foundation is governed through a Board of Directors consisting of local and international members who are committed to educating and connecting people of African descent and promoting cultural integrity whilst creating financial viability.
