Elbow Beach Yoga Weekend Retreat

October 3, 2011

Elbow Beach, Bermuda is offering an “Iyengar Yoga Weekend Retreat” package this October which includes two nights accommodation, Ivengar Yoga workshops, customised holistic facials and more.

Elbow Beach’s new custom yoga studio will play host to Iyengar yoga practitioners Richard and Kirsten Agar Ward, from the Bath Iyengar Yoga Centre in the United Kingdom.

Iyengar is among the world’s most widely practised yoga methods and is based on the teachings of the legendary Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar of Pune, India. Teachers of the Iyengar method, such as the Agar Wards, must successfully complete a rigorous assessment of their practice and teaching techniques in order to be certified by the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India.

Over the Yoga Retreat weekend, guests will be able to participate in three intensive Iyengar yoga workshops with the Agar Wards, the first of which will be held on Friday, October 21 from 7pm to 9pm. The second session will be conducted on Saturday, October 22 from 8am to 1pm and the weekend retreat will be completed on Sunday, October 23 with a workshop from 8am to 12noon.

After completing the Saturday morning workshop, guests will unwind further with a visit to The Spa at Elbow Beach. The package includes one 80-minute Customised Holistic Facial treatment, as well as a healthy spa bento box lunch.

The facial begins with an assessment to determine guest’s skin type, after which a spa therapist selects products from the ESPA skincare range to create a tailor-made facial experience for the guest.

The “Iyengar Yoga Weekend Retreat” package at Elbow Beach is valid from 21 October to 23 October 2011 and includes:

  • Two nights accommodation in a Premier Garden View Room
  • Nightly Spa Turndown Amenity
  • Three Ivengar Yoga Workshops
  • Two 80-Minute Customised Holistic Facials
  • Two Spa Bento Box Lunches

The “Iyengar Yoga Weekend Retreat” package is priced at  $1,560 inclusive of all taxes and gratuities. This package is subject to availability and is based on double occupancy. Reservations can be made by contacting Elbow Beach directly at 236-3535 or ebbda-reservations@mohg.com. Additional nights can be added for $295 per night plus taxes and gratuities.

Other than the large price-tag, this type of idea could be good for our lagging tourism segment.

  2. MinorMatters says:

    - it’s precisely the large price-tag which is a turn-off…

  3. Truth be told says:

I was on-board with this until I saw the price tag – - too expensive. Nice idea but not worth the cost.

  4. oh my says:

I was like this is sounding really nice, until I got to the price tag. of course the average Bermudian will not be able to afford this, so I guess this is appealing to the stay at home wives of the CEO of the big business :-(

  5. joe says:

In fact the pricing is a little odd. It is based on ‘double occupancy’, usually implying that the amount is per person, which of course this cannot be. So, what happens if one person books? I assume the price is lower, but by how much?
Then there are meals to contend with….

  6. Cat says:

I wonder if they could do something like this considerably cheaper by using local instructors. I really liked the idea too until seeing the price!! :(

    • Cat says:

These types of retreats are often offered with local instructors even ones from overseas at affordable rates. Check the Yoga Center and Spirit House.

  7. Cat says:

I agree with all. At this time the cost is more than most of us can bear to part with.

  8. MinorMatters says:

this is a typical example of a great idea and then we [Bermuda] blow it with these stupid costs…Who the hell is going to pay/patronize this? Elbow beach is absolutely fantastic for something like this. Shaking my head…we just don’t get it!

  9. GlobalCitizen says:

Amazing idea..So excited to see something like this in Bermy, With all the negativity in the world this is needed!! But the price tag is too steep for a weekend course! I can fly to Thailand and back + the course and it would prob be a competitive price.. for a week vs. a weekend! Just sayin..
