Berkeley: ‘Safe, Productive Environment’

November 23, 2011

The Berkeley Institute board of governors today [Nov.23] confirmed that a fight involving several male students took place at the school during the lunch period on Monday [Nov. 21].

All involved were students currently enrolled at the school.

The incident, which did not require emergency services intervention, was quickly resolved by the school’s on-campus security services.

The board said there were no major injuries to any of the students and following an investigation by the school’s administration, the students will be disciplined accordingly.

Principal Michelle Simmons said: “We have had a terrific start to our school year without any major incidents and we are pleased that the programmes that we have in place are proving effective in developing and maintaining a harmonious school environment.

“This notwithstanding, given that any school environment is a microcosm of the broader society, we can expect that there will be negative situations from time to time. I take this opportunity to assure the public that our security protocols are such that these incidents can be quickly resolved.

“The Berkeley Institute continues to operate as a safe and productive learning environment.”
