Golden Ocean Plans To Expand Fleet

Golden Ocean, a dry bulk shipping company based in Bermuda, is planning to take advantage of its strong financial position and present market situation in order to expand its fleet, Reuters reports today [Mar.12].

The company currently owns six Capesize, five Kamsarmax and five Panamax vessels, which brings total number of 16 vessels. Also, the company has a bareboat contract with Thome Ship Management Pte Ltd for two vessels and four chartered vessels.

The company’s Newbuild list consists of 14 vessels expected to be delivered this year.

The new asset purchases could come toward the end of 2012, added company’s CFO Birgitte Vartdal.
