The Bermuda Police Service would like to commend a vigilant member of the public who reported suspicious activity in their neighbourhood on Wednesday, March 7th.

As a result, around 2:30pm that day officers in the area promptly responded to the reported burglary at a Slippery Hill, St. George’s residence and arrested two males at the scene.

In addition, suspected stolen property was recovered from the alleged burglars. They remain in police custody pending further inquiries.

This positive outcome was a combination of timely public information and police responding quickly and appropriately. Year to date, 19 individuals have appeared before the courts charged with burglary offences.

However, we are still receiving reports of burglaries where high value items like jewellery are being stolen. We continue to recommend that all residents secure their valuables out of sight, record serial numbers of all items and take pictures of their possessions – in particular electronic equipment and jewellery – so that if they are stolen and later recovered, there is an accurate way of identifying them.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods at the earliest opportunity by contacting the nearest police station or calling the main police number 295-0011.

Finally, the public is reminded that both handling and receiving stolen property are offences punishable under the law.
