EMO Tour Royal Navy Ship In Dockyard
Governor Mr. George Fergusson and Minister of National Security Wayne Perinchief were accompanied by members of the Emergency Measures Organization’s [EMO] Executive on Monday [July 9] on a tour of RFA Argus, which is berthed in Dockyard as she prepares for a summer/fall deployment in this Region in support of UK Overseas Territories.
RFA Argus is designed to support rescue, military and disaster relief with operating theatres, a 100-hospital-bed facility as well as heavy equipment and hurricane stores ready for deployment as necessary.
Governor George Fergusson and Minister Perinchief on board RFA Argus:
“Yesterday’s tour demonstrated the resources available should Bermuda ever need them. The UK Government has trained personnel and important equipment which can be deployed in support of Bermuda’s recovery efforts following a natural disaster” said Governor George Fergusson.
Minister Perinchief declared himself “impressed” with the facilities and remarked, “the ability to include this kind of assistance in our planning is invaluable. The training opportunities also make this a significant feature of our Governments’ partnership.”
The team of RFA Argus also had the opportunity to see the resources and capabilities of the Bermuda Police and Bermuda Regiment and took time to discuss cooperation with the Regiment should they both be deployed to assist other Overseas Territories as the Regiment did in the Cayman Islands in 2004.

Both naval vessels are part of the North Atlantic Patrol Taskforce, which will provide humanitarian aid and disaster relief support to the UK’s British Overseas Territories and other Islands during the Caribbean hurricane season.
