Two More Teenagers Charged With Assault

August 10, 2012

Two 17-year-olds — Judah Roberts and Sanchea Douglas — appeared in Magistrates Court this morning [Aug 10] charged with the 4th August group attack on a man in the Rambling Lane area.

They join three other people — one a 14-year-old  – who have now appeared before the Court in relation to the assault and robbery, which happened in front of the victim’s two children aged 4 and 10 and left the 33-year-old victim in the ICU.

Douglas and Roberts were charged with the indictable offences of robbery with violence and of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm. They did not have to plead to the charges, as the matter can only be heard in the Supreme Court.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin heard the lawyer’s submissions and remanded both teenagers in custody. One lawyer asked that that the two should be sent to the COED facility, but the Magistrate told the lawyer that the decision as to which facility would house the two was a decision best left to the Prison Authorities.

The two re-appear for mention on 17th August 2012.

  1. Joey-Bag-O'doughnuts says:

Bring the stockades at St George’s back into operation. Put them all on display for ridicule and some humiliation and do as I was at the receiving end of Randy Horton’s cane lashing in front of the whole Warwick Secondary School assembly.

    • Um Um Like says:

And send their parents up there too, for failing to teach their kids right from wrong.

      • Joey-Bag-O'doughnuts says:

You know, I understand where you are coming from but I’ve seen kids from fantastic families with great upbringing but they get caught up with other friends and do things to maybe fit in and they do know right from wrong but want to impress.

        • The nitty gritty says:

You know kids from fantastic families who go round splitting peoples’ heads open?
          Really?
Please give us some names so we can go have a word with them and their parents…

          • Well says:

It’s called free will. I’m under 25, and have seen many good kids(friends and people I went school with) fall to the way side on their own doing; just the other day I saw a name in the paper and was completely shocked by the incident they were involved in.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, you can lead the horse… A parent can be present, be involved, show their kids right path, doesn’t mean they’re going to follow it.

        • Moo says:

This! Tired of people always blaiming the parents. It’s not always the parents fault for not raising their children properly. Teenagers do have a mind of their own.

          • Talk2mesr8t says:

@ Moo…don’t stress over such comments. Most of these people either have no children or have the ‘perfect’ children!!

        • freda bartley says:

Its’ a sad day for Bermuda , for the total fabric of our tenuous society to have teens allegedly committing such heinous crimes !
Talk about being responsible for our own actions ! These kids know better , we can’t blame it all on their parents , who are probably out working , struggling to give their families a decent life !
I do feel however due to the extreme nature of this crime , that all of the teens involved should be firmly dealt with , to make an example of them, firmly entrench that our judicial system & our community @ large will not accept this type of behavior , regardless of age or gender. If we expect to be moving more towards the solution .

  2. cut their a$$ says:

I bet if some of these kids parents had to pay this mans medical bills and time out of work plus pain and suffering, they just might start to keep up with where their kids are ans what they are up to….what do you think?

  3. swing voter says:

this reflects badly on the parents. If your children can behave like this, what does it say about their upbringing…..and yah Horton slapped me upside the head when I was at Sec too bie….then my momma slapped me when I got home. My crime was spitting chewing gum on the pavement. Haven’t chewed gum since.

  4. claudio says:

What happened to the BPS going to areas where delinquents hang out and move them? One area in Somerset.. why dont they come town?

    • Smoke and Mirrors says:

Because the delinquents weren’t moved. They simply relocated and are hanging out at the Community Cricket field across from Arnolds.

  5. Nothing New says:

These parents should be held accountable for the childrens behaviour. I guess both are good boys and dont do any wrong ither. This is a man who had his children around and these boys didnt have any respect for them. i feel for the children cause they have to live with this for the rest of their life. I pray the father comes throught cause these boys will grow up wanting to get revenge for their father who did no wrong. Dont think children forget. Another generation with nightmares..

  6. Erinnnnn says:

Please…..It makes me laugh how the police do one good thing, then the next minute….they fall right back down to where they started in the public eye. So quick to remove so called “gangsters” in the western end of the island when the crap is happening right round the corner from the police station. This is Piss poor behavior and I’m very disappointed in the BPS. You guys need to step up your game seriously!!!

    • terry says:

And then you shall call Police Brutality when confronations occure and some may get injured et al.
Were screwed because the community sits idly buy. Therein lies the rub and the punks know it and so does mom and dad….well.. what little family there is.

  7. Kathy says:

They are getting younger and younger. What does this say about the discipline our parents are giving their children and the discipline in our school system?

We need to open a facility that is “tough love” in Bermuda. Send them out to one of the islands and drill them like they have never been drilled before. Crack them until they cry! They will come home hugging their parents and swearing they never want to go back.

Wake up Bermuda – this is all happening way to fast and we have to stop the train before it crashes!

    • terry says:

      And therein is the irony.
The stations have been closed for years.
      Peace.

  8. iiiiiiiiiiiii says:

    vagrant little s&!ts

    get a job/life/etc

    f$%ing loser a*s wanna be mother f^%kers.

  9. young observer says:

JHow is it they charging all this guys for beatin up this man n his living(hopes he recovers well), yet same scenario with Kellon Hill (r.i.p) n they let all the culprit go n charge one man f@(k this justic system is messed up buh!!!

    • chief says:

And 2 b honest I blame Charlsetta Simmons for lettin them all go and now she must feel like a real A** bcuz every single 1 of them have been back b4 the courts 4 otha dumb S**t wen they coulda been locked up…R.I.P Kellon Aug 10 will neva b forgotten

  10. HUsh says:

Children do a lot on their own please stop pointing to parents I know been through it myself please. yes Some are bad parents or just not around at all they know better the children thats it

  11. In Mark's Opinion says:

People that harm others do not deserve a second chance.

  12. US Observer in Pink Sand says:

    Are there lawsuits in Bermuda?

  13. Shocking says:

Bring back hanging for these scumbags a wasted generation!

    • Hmph says:

No need for that. These are young kids that need guidance.

      • The nitty gritty says:

        No ..their parents need guidance
Children arent born to rob and kill they learn it under the never present eye of missing parents.
You think it is a coincidence that 90% of men and boys in prison come from single parent households or violent abusive households?

  14. me says:

Judah and San I am so disappointed with you your parent did their best…

    • The Ridiculist says:

Did their best? Ok….more where they came from cause the parents did their best….joke

  15. tom-e says:

Can anyone say gang initiation? It seems to me based on the ages of the ‘alleged’ offenders. These kids r watching too much TV. Just starting to live n now they’ve created a negative relationship with the police. Parents must be proud. When a person has low self-esteem they will do whatever its takes to be accepted more so when there is no love n attention at home.
Parents pay attention to ur kids! Why create them if you have no time for them?

BTW Ladies the dude ain’t staying just cause ya pregnant. The chick before you didn’t prove that to you smfh.
Hence all these unwanted children n their wrath…

  16. tom-e says:

    N 3 more cents….

Children should be created from true love not just cause u had sex. Pay attention ppl this is our future!!!! This world is full of corruption what will the future hold if parents don’t take their role seriously.

  17. HeyBye says:

Society is falling apart here because the PLP Gov cares only about maintaining power. It does not invest in law and order making it priority one because they do not want to upset their voter base.
The island is running amok and civil society as we once knew it, has crumbled apart.
The current politicians in place don’t care because when the crap really hits the fan they will be long gone out of office.
Counting their cash from such places as Martha’s Vineyard. I am getting mine now attitude and to hell with the future,is destroying Bda.

  18. Bermudian says:

These punks should be in countries like Iran where they would be beaten into a coma for *allegedly* doing this. And as for guidance…screw that…they need to spend a few weeks overseas in one of the US prisons and see what real hardcore is all about. Bet you they would be crying for their mamas in less than 5 mins. of being there.

  19. just n idea.. says:

If we start blameing the parents we would have to go back to our ancestors our parents parents so blameing the parents is wrong..unfortunately its a problem with our system,,,why not change the way the regiment is run,,forceing people at the age of 18 to go to the army is the worst idea ever..at 18 we have already made a path for ourselves determining which way our lives go and i am sorry to say but it does not help when we have kids with issues and a whole lot of free time on there hands from 14-17 why not force these kids at that age to go to the army and install some sort of disipline in there lives….just n idea

  20. richard says:

Sorry People these are all … kids *if guilty* 4-5 month in jail out in 3

  21. Pastor Syl Hayward says:

These are some busy boys! I hope their Supreme Court experience results in something more than a mere slap on the wrist if convicted. All that teaches is that there are no real consequences for bad behaviour. I’ve seen this MO before and all I can say is, the way it is escalating, if it isn’t stopped, instead of ICU the next victim will probably end up in a graveyard

  22. annette says:

Even though my parents went out to work I and my siblings had chores to do around the house before they got home so we were too busy to get in trouble. Now I see parents who are afraid of their own children. It is time for paeprents to take back their households and instil som disciplline back into their home. Some parents have to stop. Playing friend and be the parent these children need. These are some coldhearted criminals.
