2012 Bermuda Partnership Tourism Summit

September 21, 2012

The Bermuda Hotel Association in partnership with the Department of Tourism hosted their annual summit earlier this week where international travel industry partners gather for meetings related to tourism in Bermuda.

Attendees to this year’s summit included Online Travel Agents such as Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz as well as wholesalers and vacation divisions of major airlines. Meetings were held with hotels and transportation companies on the island and Tourism Board members were encouraged to take part in the activities.

The three day Summit consisted of presentations, round table discussions and one-to-one meetings. Partners were then given the opportunity to partake in Adventure, History/Culture or Relaxation itineraries on the last day of their visit. Through the Chamber of Commerce Restaurant Division, many local restaurants hosted dinners for attendees which afforded them the opportunity to experience the broad range of dining options on the island.

Chairman of the Bermuda Hotel Association Sales & Marketing Committee and General Manager of Elbow Beach, Edward Shapard said “We wanted to ensure that our partners experience what their customers can do on vacation, we have a lot to offer here and the more people see it, the more they will spread the word.”

The group was welcomed by the Minister of Business Development and Tourism Wayne Furbert, the Chairman of the Tourism Board Maxwell Burgess and the Director of Tourism, William Griffith on Sunday, September 16th.

“This is an excellent example of everyone invested in Bermuda’s tourism industry working together to showcase our island and build relationships with partners overseas.” says John Harvey, CEO of the Bermuda Hotel Association.

The event was held at Fairmont Hamilton Princess and sponsored by the Bermuda Hotel Association and the Bermuda Department of Tourism.
