Nahki Wells Signs 3 Year Deal With Bradford

September 28, 2012

Bermuda’s Nahki Wells has signed a new three-year deal with Bradford City that will keep him with the team until July 2015.

Bradford’s website said Wells has been “given a new deal for this campaign on improved terms with a further two seasons bolted onto the end of it.”

The 22-year-old already has five goals this season, including two goals earlier this week which he scored with only 8 minutes left in the game to force extra-time, leading Bradford to a 3-2 victory.

He finished last season — which was his first as a professional — with 12 goals including a hat-trick in Bradford’s win over Northampton Town back in April of this year.

Wells said: “I’m happy that this is all sorted and agreed with the football club. I always wanted to stay at Bradford. I felt this was something that was always going to happen, we just needed everything to be right for both parties.

“Now it’s all signed, I’m delighted to get it done and hopefully the fans will be pleased by the news as well. I’d like to thank them (the fans) for all of their great support so far.

“They always give me a buzz when they chant my name. I just hope I can do well for them, my family and the football club now. We have a good squad here and I’m looking forward to the future.”

Bradford boss Phil Parkinson added: “I am obviously pleased to see Nahki commit his future to the football club. It is always important to try and keep your best players at the club.

“Nahki has done very well for us in recent months and has shown a lot of potential. We hope that he can continue to grow and improve with us now he has signed this new deal.”

  2. DVO says:

Surprised he doesn’t want to move to a team in a higher division, one of bermys best footballers settling for League Two during his peak

    • iBleedRED says:

Maybe you should see this as a great foot in the door. He could be very comfortable in the environment, or maybe even have plans of his own to better the football club.

Typical Bermudian comment though, congratulate him for what he has accomplished. Don’t belittle his achievements.

      Well done Nahki!

      • Free says:

You are no better stating that their comment was “typical Bermudian”. Are you a Bermudian? Wouldn’t that statement represent and apply to you as well if so?

It was a very valid comment and it wasn’t belittling his achievements at all, in actual fact he was praising him.

        • Come Correct says:

Well to answer the question, he could very well be good enough to play in a higher league but he’s just starting his second season as a pro. If he goes to a higher division he’ll be playing with higher quality players and thus competeing for a starting position on the field. Bradford recognizes he has potentiall so they’ll give him the game time he needs to get better. The best thing he can do is stay where he is, continue to be one of the top goal scorers and hope better teams scout him out. If he works hard it will happen.

Exactly!!! Well said well put for all the armchair coaches and managers out there.

            • Free says:

Oh be quiet! It has nothing to do with being an armchair coach or manager. Take it easy!

@Come Correct, thank you for the reply. Good answer.

  9. k says:

if a team had offered him bigger bucks, then that would have changed the dotted line he would be signing !!!!!!!!!

    • Come Correct says:

Money would then be the failure of his career. He needs experience in professional leagues before he should worry about playing for another team. Bradford is giving him field time, on another team he could be fighting for a starting position on the field. Its one thing playing against your own team in training, its another playing against a team that needs to win. Playing against an opposing team is the experience he needs. Competeing for a position means less field time, less field time is less experience. He made a wise choice in my oppinion, at the end of his three seasons big teams will pay big money to get him. If he forgets the money and works hard for love of the game he will go far.
