Man Admits Threatening, Jailed For Two Months
Tio Weeks, 37, was sentenced to two months in jail after he pleaded guilty to threatening his girlfriend if she testified against him at trial. He has however been held on remand for the past two months, and his remand time has been taken into account.
Crown Counsel Susan Mulligan told the court that last year the defendant punched Beverly Pitt in the face, injuring to the extent she was bleeding. The victim’s daughter called the police, and Weeks was arrested.
Weeks then told the girlfriend that he would kill her if she gave evidence. Initially the victim indicated that she would give evidence, then later withdrew. On the witness stand at the trial, she refused to give evidence.
Crown Counsel Susan Mulligan continued telling the Magistrate that Weeks had been in custody since 30th November because of this incident, but that the victim had continued her relationship with Weeks and had visited him at Westgate while he was on remand.
Magistrate Warner reviewed Weeks’ criminal record, and noted that he had a long history of assaulting women. After submissions from lawyer Rick Woolridge, the Senior Magistrate handed down a two month sentence to be followed by two years probation during which Weeks is to take part in programs set by the Dept of Court Services.
Weeks time in prison was to be calculated from 30th November 2012, meaning his prison sentence has been served and he now begins the probation period of the sentence.

SOMETHING IS CLEARLY WRONG WITH THE JUDGES IN THIS COUNTRY!!! Let’s hope we don’t see his name in the news anymore (which would be something entirely new for Bermuda!).

I’m sorry but I don’t condone domestic violence against female/male. But what I do have an issue with is for the victim who has a VERY big mouth in all other circumstances to not want to speak up for herself is unbelievable!! Do not take this as an insult just as an “eye opener”. We as WOMEN need to make a stand no matter what…he’s done it to you once so you know he will do it AGAIN! As the news report clearly states he has a HISTORY of doing these sorts of acts upon females. Ladies RESPECT yourself and even more so RESPECT your child/children. If the child of the victim contacted authorities and the person was inprisoned why on earth would this…woman, mother citizen continue to visit this scum bag behind bars?!?! A review of the laws n sentencing practices must be REVAMPED. It is apparent that these laws don’t bother these folk in the least as they seem to know the laws are quite relaxed n don’t hold much room for rehabilitation or deter them from re-offending. This is 2013 and it is very evident that the laws of Bermuda’s judicial system don’t carry much weight to curb more lawlessness. The LAWS must be reviewed, revamped, re-written n then re-applied. Judges use them but fail miserably in applying them. “Spare the rod…..Spoil the child and then after that, they no longer can be contained n running amock n then we wonder why some people do that which they do. Upgrade the Judicial system n make it work for the betterment of ALL concerned. Let’s have it…………..
