[Update: Bermuda’s Nahki Wells opened the scoring for Bradford in the 19th minute, and after he scored he lifted his shirt to show his undershirt which said “RIP Tumaini Steede”.

Bradford scored two more goals, Aston Villa pulled one back, and the game ended with Bradford defeating Aston Villa 3-1. Bradford will now travel to Villa Park on Tues. 22 January for the second game vs Aston Villa. ]

Bermudian Nahki Wells and his Bradford City teammates are set to take on Premier League Aston Villa later today [Jan 8] in the Capital One Cup Semi-Final.

Bradford made it through to the semi-finals following a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Arsenal in the quarter-final.

Bradford will host Aston Villa at the Coral Windows Stadium in the first leg today, and Bradford will then travel to Villa Park on Tuesday 22 January for the second leg. Chelsea face Swansea City in the other Capital One Cup Semi-Final.

A 6-minute montage of Wells career from Vimeo user Luke Wood is below:

Bradford have reached the last four of the League Cup for the first time in the 53-year history of the competition. They are the first fourth-tier club to progress this far since Wycombe in 2006-07, and the fourth in total.

Wells, a 22-year-old former Dandy Town player, is Bradford’s leading scorer and can be expected to feature prominently in today’s match up. The match should hopefully be shown on local television [ESPN - CableVision channel #22] starting at around 3.45pm.

“It was a good time to get the goal and it put us in a better position….they were attacking us quite a lot…to get that goal at that time was crucial and it gave us the strength to keep going and get three goals and that’s all you can ask for.”

Update 6.37pm: English footballer Billy Sharp, who plays as a striker for Nottingham Forest on loan from Southampton, tweeted he thinks Nahki Wells will get a move this window.

  32. Bermudian says:

Congrats to Nahki & Bradford City & the Dandy Town Family!

You really make Bermuda & the Dandy Town Family very proud! I feel fortunate to have been able to watch you from your earlier years playing for the Dandy Town’s U15′s, and before. But to be honest, when he was playing under 15′s (under coach Maurice Lowe), you could see he had something special about him (the boy could bang a ball!). He was scoring 4, 5, 6 goals a game then. Honestly, that whole crop of Dandy Town under 15′s were special, I use to watch them destroy teams on a regular basis. I feel I can speak for many at my club when I say it brings joy to our hearts when we are able to watch you on Prime Time living out your dream, and helping bring about some Bermuda Pride that we so badly need.

With that being said, I would hope that the BFA have nominated this man for ATHLETE OF THE YEAR! I mean, no disrespect to any of the other athletes, but I truly feel what this young man has accomplished warrants his nomination at the least. If this young man has not been nominated, I would really like to know what the H*ll’s going on at the BERMUDA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION , because you surely are not paying attention to whats going on. Nominate him, he deserves it!!!!!!

  33. Bobmarlin says:

Mr Wells your work is not done yet.Jan 22nd is the second leg of the semi-final.Play hard to ensure you and your teammates make it to the final.
No more lectures. You make all of Bermuda proud, win or lose we are with you.All the best!
