Photos: BIFF ‘Live From The Red Carpet’ Event

The Bermuda International Film Festival hosted its annual Oscars party — the “Live from the Red Carpet” event — at Margarita’s Grill in Hamilton on Sunday, February 24.

The Academy Awards were broadcast live from Los Angeles, with guests attempting to predict the winners and playing movie-themed games to win prizes. The event was held in advance of 16th annual Bermuda International Film Festival which will be held on April 12-18, with the funds raised going towards supporting BIFF 2013.

The Academy Awards ceremony featured a special tribute to the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise and Adele won the Best Original Song Oscar for the title tune to the current 007 Bond blockbuster, “Skyfall.”

“Argo” won three Oscars including Best Motion Picture, Best Achievement in Film Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay for Chris Terrio.

The Best Director award’ was won by Ang Lee for “Life of Pi” upsetting Steven Spielberg. But Mr. Spielberg’s “Lincoln” won two Oscars, one for Production Direction with the Best Actor statuette going to Daniel Day Lewis in the title role.

Jennifer Lawrence won the Best Actress award for her role in “Silver Linings Playbook” – which BIFF screened in the lead-up to the Oscars as a special fundraiser.

Christoph Waltz won his second Oscar as Best Supporting Actor for director/writer Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” which also won the Best Original Screenplay award.

Anne Hathaway won in the category of Best Performance Supporting Actress for “Les Misérables”.
