Court Building Evacuated Due To Fire Alarm

[Updated] This morning [May 28] the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service responded to the Dame Lois Browne Evans Building, in a scene that saw the building evacuated while Court was in session. According to an employee of the building, a fire alarm had gone off, but very quickly it was deemed safe for all to return to the building.

Update 12.03pm: A police spokesperson said, “Around 10:30am on Tuesday, May 28th a fire alarm was activated in the custody area of Hamilton Police Station. As a result, the police station and the adjoining Magistrates’ Court in the Dame Lois Browne Evans building were briefly evacuated.

“The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service promptly attended the scene, assessed the situation and shortly thereafter reentry into the premises was allowed. Inquiries into the cause of the fire alarm activation are ongoing.”
