May 16, 2013

The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs said they would like to advise that the 2013 Bermuda Day Parade begins at 1:30pm on Friday, May 24th, starting from Bernard Park and finishing at City Hall Car Park in Hamilton.

The parade route will start from Bernard Park, moving along Dutton Avenue on to Marsh Folly Road. It continues through to the top of Cedar Avenue. At this point the parade makes a left turn on to Church Street, followed by a right turn on to Court Street. The parade moves through Front Street and up Queen Street with dispersals following final performances at the City Hall Car Park.

A spokesperson said, “For the safety of the public, as the parade gets to the top of Queen Street, the floats make a right turn on to Church Street, park in front of City Hall and remain there on display throughout the afternoon.

“The dance trucks, however, make a slight left turn and then proceed along Wesley Street – offload the dancers at the performance site and move on to the back of the City via Park Road. All Bermuda Day Parade activities are expected to be completed by 7:30 p.m. Also the main vantage point for the Bermuda Day Parade will return to Front Street instead of Cedar Avenue.”

Minister of Community and Cultural Development Wayne Scott said: “the climax of our Heritage Month programme is the ever popular and much loved Bermuda Day Parade – an event that holds a very special place in our hearts! The Parade, as has been the custom, will use the same heritage Month theme ‘The Colours, Sights and Sounds of Bermuda’ and will feature beautifully creative floats; the pulsating rhythms of Gombey dancers and other dance groups; the spectacular performances of majorette groups and the energy and enthusiasm of all participants”.

  1. Looking forward to it says:

I know the buses will be on a Sunday service, but does anyone know how close they will get in to town to drop off passengers? I’m assuming the marathon and parade road closures will effect that? Thank you!

  2. I love the route and I am glad that someone had the sense to put the grand stand back on front street, with the dignitaries at the flag pole.
it is much more sensible to have them there were our tourist from the ships can enjoy the parade and get to see our local leaders at the same time.

The only dissapointing part of this route,is the fact that the starting point is at Dutton avenue and not in reverse as previous years.by the time the parade gets to front street it will be a drag and folk will be tired that are particapating in the parade and the spectators alike along front street,so by the time the parade gets to the grand stand where the dignitaries and the tourist are, they wont have the energetic energy to really perform to the fullest.which will be a distasteful sight and not very high marks for the brains behind the route in reverse.

    • r u serious says:

although i agree with you it has been this way for 2 years now so it is not something that just came about

      • die hard St. George's Fan says:

When the parade falls on a Friday and is day light saving time can the parade begin at 3pm because at least the workers can have an opportunity to see the parade when staff finish at 4pm from
the hospital, hotels etc because they are already missing the marathon.

  3. Reverse says:

I know it is nothing new but it would be more approproiate for the route to end in a park and not a car park. This allows for more viewing and space for folks to more around.
