Slideshow/Results: Bermuda Day Parade Floats

[Updated with additional photos] Colourful floats representing the cultural diversity of today’s island are now leaving Bernard Park to take part in today’s Bermuda Day Parade.

According to the parade list, groups entering floats this year include: Zion Contracting & Eru At lle, Bermuda Shriners’ Club, Sandys Secondary Middle School, Gladwyn Smith, TROIKA Bermuda, Opportunity Workshop, T N Tatem Middle School, The Bermuda Netball Association, Alkebulah Research Institute, The Bermuda Hospital Charitable Trust, Bermuda Sloop Foundation, Progressive Labour Party, Department of Community & Cultural Affairs and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Awards were handed out in various categories with the Department of Community & Cultural Affairs’ float winning for Best Government Department, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. taking top honours for Best Charity Organisation and TROIKA Bermuda – “Sun, Sand, Sea” taking the Best Community/Volunteer/Political trophy.

The Ruth Thomas Award went to Sandys Secondary Middle School, the D. J. Williams Award for Best Middle School went to T. N. Tatem Middle School with Sandys Secondary Middle School coming in second.

The Premier’s Award for Best Float went to T.N. Tatem Middle School, the Minister’s Award for Most Original Float went to The Bermuda Sloop Foundation and the Reggie Ming Award for Most Beautiful went to the Department of Public Transportation.

The parade was scheduled to begin at 1:30pm at Bernard Park. It will move along Dutton Avenue on to Marsh Folly Road, to Cedar Avenue, Church Street, Court Street, Front Street, Queen Street and finish at the City Hall car park.

    Extra proud day to be a Bermudian! Congrats to all the participants and especially the winners of the floats! They get better every year.

    And to ‘HEY’ and ‘PLP’ what’s wrong with the PLP having a float? It’s Bermuda Day! Talking about bringing politics into everything. ha. Stop the hating you bies, it’s Bermuda Day, be happy, grab a Gingerbeer and go Skank with the Gombeys, Premier Cannoneir was. ENJOY! lol #relax

      Some of the nicer floats I have seen in years!

      I agree with you island empress, although I am not a supporter of the PLP , I don’t see anything wrong with them entering a float either.

    As a former member of the Heritage Advisory Committee and past judge of the Bermuda Day Parade floats I was very impressed with the overall quality of all the floats this year. Well done everyone.

    The PLP may be down but they are not out! I think it’s great they had a float also. OBA will be a one hit wonder, watch!
