Recalled Syringes Not Imported Into Bermuda

August 28, 2013

The Ministry of Health and Seniors said that after a local investigation, it has been determined that the syringes affected by a recent recall are “not known to have been imported into Bermuda.”

A notice posted on the FDA website last week said Covidien had initiated a voluntary recall of certain lots of Monoject™ Prefill Flush Syringes sold in the United States and Bermuda.

A Government spokesperson said, “The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expressed concern that several lots of syringes from various compounding pharmacies in the US may not have been created under the usual sterile conditions. As a precautionary measure, US pharmaceutical companies handling the affected lots issued a voluntary recall of these syringes.

“On August 26th, The Ministry of Health and Seniors began a local investigation to determine if any affected stock items were known to be imported into Bermuda. Local medical supply companies and the Bermuda Hospitals Board pharmacy have been consulted and it has been determined that the syringes affected by this recall are not known to have been imported into Bermuda.

“The vast majority of the affected products are prescription products used only in health care facilities by medical personnel, and would not have been sold directly to consumers.”
