BUEI To Host Lionfish Dissection Workshops

September 9, 2013

The lionfish has proven to be a costly predator as it continues to take over much of the Atlantic Ocean’s coastlines, including those belonging to Bermuda, prompting both scientific research and calls to public action, and now an upcoming workshop to be held at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute aims to help educate Bermudians as to exactly what we’re dealing with.

Lionfish

Jessica Meredith will perform public dissections of lionfish in the interest of learning more about the sea creature at BUEI at 3.30pm on both Saturday, September 14, and Saturday, September 28, 2013, giving children and adults alike the opportunity to see what makes Bermuda’s most threatening fish tick.

For more information on Meredith’s lionfish dissection workshop, please call the Oceans Gift Shop at 294-0204.

Is a “Public Dissection” really necessary for children? How is that meant to help them? Do they then move on to cats and dogs to see what “makes them tick”, too? What is your point here, Ms. Meredith?
