St David’s Issue Detroy Smith A 10-Game Ban
The St. David’s Cricket Club has issued Detroy Smith a 10 game suspension and 1 year probation after the incident on Boxing Day in which Smith spat on referee Anthony Francis after being given a red card.
Smith was sent off for foul and abusive language during their Friendship Semi-Final clash with St David’s taking on Somerset Trojans at the Wellington Oval. He then spat on referee Anthony Francis as he was walking off the field.
A post on the St Davids CCC Management Facebook page said, “Please be advised that after the incident with Detroy Smith in the Boxing Day game vs Somerset Trojans, the club has issued Detroy a 10 game suspension [6 Premier Div and 4 PDL games] and 1 year probation.”
While St. David’s have handed down their decision, Smith may also face a Bermuda Football Association a disciplinary hearing as well.

That is appalling behaviour. He should be disgusted with himself. There is no reason for that type action. To spit on another human being is the ultimate offense. And to an official… wow. This type behaviour should warrant lifetime ban. Think of the message it sends to the youth. Loser

I agree with you he should have got a Lifetime Ban.
Lifetime ban????? Really….. I’m in NO way condoning these actions; however from a past player a lifetime ban seems more a reaction to this individual, than the offence?

Did not a player from Dandy Town a few years back get a life time ban for spitting on a ref called Sousa??Lets see what course of action the BFA will take now??
I’m sorry was that your question? Do I know the individual? I simply stated as a past player, a life time ban (which AGAIN whose actions I do not condone) seems excessive for this action. And saying so does not mean I agree with such behavior and only mentioned that punishment should be non-biased to the individual and address the offence.
Sure give him a life time ban; just be prepared to do the same for ALL others.
It is mandatory to respect the official’s or authority’s direction and decisions. If you dont you shouldnt be there. Spitting shows no respect at all, period. If I spat at my boss I wouldnt have a job.. truss me.
Detroy is a very talented young man…He needs serious help with his anger issues..This is only the CLUB ban…The BFA could/should ban him a little bit longer. His club should also try and get him anger management help..Anyone can change…b’leve me!
