On Saturday [Mar 22], the Distinguished men of The Epsilon Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. held their 14th Annual Black and Gold Ball at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel.

The gala was the culmination of a three-part series of events by the Brothers of Alpha, who earlier in the week hosted a symposium at the Bermuda College and Leadership Breakfast for high school male seniors at St. Paul’s AME Centennial Hall.

To kick off the evening’s entertainment, the audience was treated to a performance by local students from InMotion School of Dance. Following dinner, the keynote speaker, Jemal Gibson, an international motivational speaker, author, corporate executive and philanthropist, was welcomed to the stage.

Gibson, a member of Alpha, captivated the crowd with a riveting speech, which highlighted his tumultuous journey out of Chicago’s west side, about the importance of the “spirations” – aspiration, perspiration, and inspiration – in achieving one’s goals.

The evening’s headline entertainer, international recording artist, Sheléa Frazier, wowed attendees with her musical mastery, paying tribute to Whitney Houston with a medley of the star’s hits.

The local Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. also recognized the Kardias Club, an organization that has supported the local community since its inception in 1964, with a Community Service Award, while the Brothers bestowed their coveted Brother of the Year award to Chapter president, Bro. Lloyd Holder.

Premier Craig Cannonier, Cabinet Ministers, MPs and Senators from both parties, business executives, and organizations and individuals from throughout the community were in attendance for the special event.
