Trend Of Burglars Smashing Windows & Doors

March 18, 2014

The police have advised of a recent trend in reported burglaries where the offender[s] have smashed glass windows or doors to gain entry.

A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise residents that several burglaries have occurred lately in various parishes.

“An apparent trend in recent reported burglaries is that the offender(s) have smashed glass windows or doors to gain entry and conduct an untidy search of the premises.

“As a result if breaking glass is heard in any neighbourhood, it should be reported immediately to the main police telephone number 295-0011.

“Members of the public should also report any suspicious activity seen in their neighbourhoods, in particular suspicious individuals and vehicles entering or leaving the area.

“Residents should continue to secure their homes by ensuring all windows and doors are locked before leaving their property unattended. Similarly, air conditioning units should be secured and it is recommended that all valuables are kept in a safe or safety deposit box if possible.

  2. Greed Killed Bermuda says:

    Wait – isn’t crime at a 5 year low?

What is this that we’re hearing?

  3. Triangle Drifter says:

Ask around. See what models of bikes are popular with the thieves. Do NOT buy that model.

  4. Home Defense says:

So the police/government expect us to pick up a phone and dial a number while some “thug” is trying to, or probably already has, gained entry into my home? No no. Firsly I doubt the intruders will allow you to sit there for a second and make a call, secondly, what then, let them go ahead and do their thing and take my stuff? I think we need to allow a “stand your ground” law where you may protect your property by forceful means if necessary. We need to take a stand against these thugs and protect ourselves, rather than goin jail for assaulting an intruder with worse intentions than our own.

Yah yah yah, lets bring on de guns!

I always wanted an AK-47 to play with, a little target practice on an unsuspecting passer by that’s what um talkin’ bout!

Who cares right? Soon will all have guns and be able to pop a cap into someone’s a** on the basis of ‘standing our ground’!

All that PS4 game playing I do is got to have some better use than just mindless entertainment right?

When the zombie apocalypse does happen, there is going to be nothing left to steal on this island.

  6. watchfuleyes says:

Which parishes are hot for sticky fingers? Obviously ‘Neighborhood Watch’ does not help, from experience! We had attempt, but will be ready for them next time.

  7. Redo says:

These losers are getting more brazen in their attacks. Other than stupidity, why is this so? More desperate? Fresh load of drugs to be had? Are more people strung out? Serious questions here. Any answers? I hope there are reasons and that this is not just the new norm that we have to get used to. Bars on all windows in our near future like other 3rd world islands?

  8. Werner says:

Smash you window/door in broad daylight. Not worried about dog etc… We got a new breed of criminals out there.
Let’s make sure we set an example when they get caught, either by the law or a homeowner.
This is not what Bermuda is all about. We shouldn’t need bars on our windows and doors protecting what we worked hard for.

    • Raymond Ray says:

Werner I agree 100%.It’s time for mandatory sentencing in our Courts! Far too often we see people back on the streets that were only incarcerated a year prior,(they’d supposedly been sent to prison for several years)but this isn’t happening! When will the courts get tough?

  9. Gotham says:

Perhaps if the cops took the perps out back instead of down to the station the trend might spike downward.

  10. Whistling Frog says:

And you wanna know why people want to have ferocious dogs.

  11. Whaap Whoomp says:

If you see strangers sculking ,loitering, walking aimlessly trying to look inconspicuous, and you hear glass breaking …report the direction in which you hear it…stop their nonsense before they get to your dwelling…be clear about this…stop them before you become the victim.

    • Come Correct says:

Break into my yard and you become the victim. I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. I don’t read minds, I don’t know your intentions, I’ll show no mercy. My dog is also more crazy than I am. One day will be the wrong house. Already has, will be again. That man deserved a medal not a court case.

  12. JUNK YARD DOG says:

Post a sign on you mail box.

    Appointment ! phone 911

  13. Zaloney says:

I saw a car parked outside Bermuda Motors the other night right across from the 7th Day Adventist Church. And the whole front sheild was completely smashed in,the car alarm was going off. A whole a frigging mess it was.
