Special Events Calendar Announced For BIFF

The Bermuda International Film Festival today [Mar 6] announced a full calendar of special events to complement the film programme during festival week, March 21-27.

Andrew Stoneham, Festival Operations Manager, said, “This year we have restyled and reformatted the social aspect of the festival in order to make it more accessible. There’s something on every night of BIFF 2014 so if you come to a film and want to soak up more of the festival action, you can!”

Oscar Night The Deep

Gala Presentations

BIFF said, “The Gala Presentations that mark the beginning, midpoint and conclusion of the festival will provide a red carpet experience for those that didn’t get an invite to the Oscars at the weekend. These films are the most high profile in our programme:

  • Friday March 21, 7pm – Le Week-End
  • Monday March 24, 7pm – The French Minister
  • Thursday March 27, 7pm – Alan Partridge

BIFF Live Talks

“We are hosting a series of free early evening BIFF Live Talks at Bermuda National Gallery in City Hall. Festival attendees, film fans, aspiring filmmakers and students are invited to join us for these panel discussions featuring, actors, directors, critics and other industry insiders talking about all aspects of the world of film in person.

Monday March 24, 5.15pm – Producing Shining Examples

“An experienced Executive Producer on several of the most famous films in cinematic history discusses making features that have watch-ability, longevity and the power to leave an imprint on the audience for a lifetime.

Tuesday March 25, 5.15pm – Diary of a Documentarian

“Local documentary makers, who have a new feature screening at BIFF 2014, take us behind the camera to explore what interests and inspires them, how they identify strong stories and create content with both integrity and intrigue.

Wednesday March 26, 5.15pm – Short but Sharp

“Making short films is often seen as an entry point to feature filmmaking but it is a practice that carries its own challenges. How do you engage and entertain when time is not on your side? Visiting filmmakers talk us through the short cuts for succeeding with shorts.

Thursday March 27, 5.15pm – The Secrets of Selection

“Our panel of experts, who have each programmed for leading overseas film festivals, provide insight on how to wow selection committees. They will explain how they spot emerging talent, track trends and create themes.

Dinner & a Movie

“Enjoy a special three-course menu before or after your BIFF 2014 movie at our official restaurant sponsor, Victoria Grill, for only $35. BIFF After Dark

“Port O Call on Front Street is hosting our After Dark events and will be the place to meet visiting filmmakers, jury, international press and industry professional from March 21 to 26 (excluding Sunday). From 8pm during the festival, present your BIFF ticket at Port O Call and receive 10 per cent off food and drinks. Enjoy stunning locally inspired dishes, an award-winning wine list and signature cocktails in an elegant harbourfront setting.

Award Ceremony

“A glamourous award ceremony will be held at 9pm on the closing night of the festival [March 27] at The Deep within the Elbow Beach hotel complex. This event will honour the winner of the prestigious Bermuda Shorts accolade and our audience choice ballot. Entry is free and party goers can enjoy complimentary tapas and rub shoulders with the stars of BIFF 2014. A cash bar will be in operation.
