Argus Group Donates To Chewstick Foundation
The Argus Group has made a donation to The Chewstick Foundation, a non-profit cultural arts movement which was established in Bermuda in 2003. The contribution will ensure the continuation and enhancements of its programmes, which include True Wisdom In Growing Souls [T.W.I.G.S.] Youth Open Mic, the Ital Clarke Learning Studio, and the new Break The Chains Programme.
A spokesperson said, “As a direct impact of the Argus donation, the T.W.I.G.S. Youth Open Mic has developed a Youth Board that consists of young people from The Bermuda College, The Berkeley Institute, Cedarbridge Academy, and the Bermuda High School for Girls.
“Students that sit on the Youth Board are improving project management processes, encouraging teamwork and improving marketing and communications while also empowering their generation to take charge of their own destiny. The board has also started monthly performance workshops in addition to the youth open mic that takes place on the second Saturday of each month.
“The Ital Clarke Studio was enhanced through upgrades to equipment that helps young people to learn basic skills in engineering and makes recording projects accessible to new artists. As the studio is now more efficient, the equipment has been used in events with partner charities.”

“The Argus donation also supported the development of the new Break the Chains Programme, for students ages 14-19 at public and private schools in Bermuda. Through the programme, each school will develop its own poetry and spoken word club; participants will also attend monthly workshops, organised by the Break the Chains Education Director, Yesha Townsend.
“They will also have the opportunity to perform at a National Youth Poetry Competition in May 2014 from which 11 finalists will be selected to represent Bermuda at the Annual International Brave New Voices Poetry and Spoken Word Festival in Philadelphia in July.”

The Chewstick programmes help our youth to build an appreciation of poetry and creative writing, improve their skills and develop self-esteem.
