Saltus Grub Day Raises $3,000 For Red Cross

Saltus Grammar School students and staff raised $3,153.02 at the grub day for the Bermuda Red Cross’ ‘Red, White & Do Day’ at the beginning of May 2014, supporting a variety of local programs.

Director of the local Red Cross Mrs. Ann Spencer-Arscott said that funds raised through this event stay in Bermuda to assist in offsetting expenses associated with their various services and programmes, including purchasing equipment for their Equipment Rental Department, a service used by 800 people annually.”

The funds will also sponsor a club for seniors called ‘Golden Hour’ that meets twice a month at Peace Lutheran Church Hall, where 70 seniors gather for fellowship, education, and entertainment, and for their latest programme, dubbed ‘Disaster Risk Reduction,’ which involves getting into the community to assist with reducing risk and building resilience by subsidizing the cost of first aid kits.

Finally, funds will also support their Safety and Health courses that are open to everyone, training close to 1,500 people in the community each year, as well as 250 students in its babysitting course.
