Dept Of Health Hosts Public Forum On HIV

The Department of Health organized a public forum on HIV/AIDS at Bermuda Society of Arts, which was one of many of the events organized to recognize the month of June as HIV Awareness Month.

International guest speaker at the forum was Ms Marvelyn Brown, is the author of The Naked Truth: Young, Beautiful and HIV-Positive,  hopeful story of how an “everyday girl” contracted HIV and how she manages to stay upbeat, inspired, and more positive about life than ever before.

The Minister of Health, Seniors and Environment Jeanne Atherden met with Ms Brown prior to the forum to welcome her to the island and thank her for sharing her story with Bermuda.

Additional panelists at the forum included some of Bermuda’s leading professionals in HIV/AIDS patient care and a representative from STAR.

On Thursday [June 26] members of the public are invited to take part in ‘Not Just Another Book Club’ at the Bermuda National Library from 6pm to 8pm where there will be a discussion of the book The Naked Truth: Young, Beautiful and HIV-Positive followed by question and answer period with Ms Brown.

    I was driving from St George’s last evening and posted on the huge wall just by the round about at Swing Bridge are two signs that tells people not to post any signs and lo and behold here is one of the HIV posters. Makes one wonder if people can’t read or they figure the warning sign doesn’t mean them. That aside, please keep the HIV Awareness information rolling because many young people are at risk.
