Sinclair Gibbons Wins Cricket Sportsman Award

June 21, 2014

The Bermuda Cricket Board announced the winner of the weekly Chivas Cricket Sportsman Award for week four as Sinclair Gibbons of St. Georges Cricket Club.

The BCB said, “Somerset bowler, Jacobi Robinson injured himself during his first over while attempting to field a ball struck by Sinclair Gibbons.

“After receiving treatment, Mr. Robinson bowled another 4 overs before he was forced to retire from the field due to the pain.

“Mr. Gibbons, as the batsman at the crease deputizing for the St. Georges captain, allowed a substitute player to replace Mr. Robinson despite the fact that the Somerset team had not named any reserve players in their nominated team. With Mr. Robinson’s retirement, Somerset would have been forced to continue the match with only 10 men.

“By allowing the substitute player to take the field, Mr. Gibbons exhibited a superior standard of fair play and showed the true Spirit of Cricket.
