Bermuda Youth Library To Show Off New Art

December 14, 2014

The Bermuda Youth Library is getting set to welcome visitors with a soft opening on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 11.00am in order to show off the newly decorated aquarium room, which now features a wall-to-wall installation painting by artist Manuel Palacio.

The art, which depicts underwater scenes including plant and animal life, was inspired and referenced by underwater paintings by Hawaiian artist Christian Riese Lassen.

Mr. Palacio said, “In the wake of our good news regarding the America’s Cup, I hope this installation inspires work of this magnitude, where art changes the look of the spaces, such as our airport arrival terminal and new developments like Arial Sands.

“This project started when Mrs. Tasleem Talbot asked if I could paint art on the walls. I agreed, thinking I was going to spend a week at the most painting cartoons.”

“But their choice of Christian Lassen’s art provided me with a challenge. Four months later and, with the help of “Friends of the Library,” the project is complete.”
