Secondment: Anguilla Police Sergeant Joins BPS
A Sergeant from the Royal Anguilla Police Force has been seconded to the Bermuda Police Service to shadow the Public and Media Relations Unit for the next two weeks.
The Sergeant’s visit is designed to provide him with an overview of the role of press and public communications within the police service. His attachment is being funded by the Governor’s Office in Anguilla and is part of a wider programme of collaboration between the Commissioners of Police in the UK Overseas Territories of Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman, Turks & Caicos and Montserrat.
Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva said, “I am delighted to welcome Sergeant Chrispen Gumbs of the Royal Anguilla Police Force [RAPF] to the ranks of the Bermuda Police Service – at least for the next two weeks.
“Sergeant Gumbs has been seconded to the BPS to shadow the Public and Media Relations [PMR] Unit until 23rd January under the leadership of Mr. Dwayne Caines and his staff.”
He continued, “He is a twenty-four year police veteran who will be transferred to the media office of the RAPF upon his return to Anguilla. I am looking forward to hosting Sergeant Gumbs and showing him how we do things.
“Communication sits at the heart of our policing strategy and much of our success in tackling gun and gang crime is attributed to our open and honest communication with the media and the public.
“I am confident that Sergeant Gumbs will find some useful practices to take back home and I wish him the best in his new post.”
