Team Captain Tabytha Hofheins turned in Bermuda’s top performance at the Chicago Style Invitational last weekend, winning the gold medal on vaulting [9.3] and the bronze in the all-around [34.45] in the Level 9 16+ age group.

The 17 year old Warwick Academy student led the squad of ten national team members who made the trip from Bermuda for the “world’s largest gymnastics meet”, which attracts 4,000 of the top gymnasts from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Competing in the Level 6 11-year old category was Jezhari Talbot [11, Paget Primary], a promising athlete and youngest member of the team. Talbot had a consistent performance highlighted by an 8.85 on vaulting.

Moving on to the level 7 session, Gianna Webbe [13, Warwick Academy] turned in a stellar floor exercise routine for a 9.35 and an 8th place medal in the 13-year old division; Ava Marshall [14, BHS] had her highest placement on beam with an 8.725, and Trinity Wilson [14, Warwick Academy] recorded her high score on vaulting, an 8.75.

Head Coach Duke Nelligan remarked, “The future of Bermuda Gymnastics looks bright. This was Jezhari Talbot’s first big time event and she stepped up to the plate. What I found most exciting was that she came back to Bermuda on Monday and was at training, eager to work. She wants to know how she can improve and is working hard to make those changes.

“At the other end of the experience spectrum, Tabytha Hofheins has been our rock over the last few years. She continues to progress both as an athlete and as a young woman. Her work ethic reflects that she is determined to finish her career with Bermuda Gymnastics on a high note. I was very excited for her first place finish on vault; it was truly deserved”.
