O’Shaughnessy Makes His Debut For Bedford

February 16, 2015

Bermuda flanker Tadhg O’Shaughnessy recently made his debut for Bedford Academy as it took on Ealing, with his team securing a 24pts – 10 win.

The Bedford Blues website said, “With a fine win against Wasps last week, and having put more than 40 points over Ealing last month, you might have thought that the scene was set for a comfortable win for the Blues against Ealing at Goldington Road.

“However a combination of an Ealing side who had different ideas, and a Bedford Academy side who never hit form, resulted in the Blues going in at half time 5pts – 3 up, before an improved second half saw them work a 24pts – 10 win.”

“The first half saw Ealing take the game to Bedford never letting them settle. The Blues managed to get the first score, with hooker Garth Spencer touching down a driven lineout to put Bedford 5pts – 0 ahead after 20 minutes.

“Ealing narrowed the gap 5 minutes later with a penalty. Ealing’s defence was more than a match for the Blues, with them stopping any Blues attacks before they got going.

“Ealing had a great start to the second half when a driven lineout gave them a try in the corner, which they converted, to go 10pts – 5 ahead. Good work by the Blues pack led to the final try by Stowe schoolboy, flanker Tadhg O’Shaughnessy, making his Blues debut. Gregory-Ring converted to give the Blues a 24pts – 10 victory.”

Denis Ormesher, the Blues Academy Director, said, “We were pleased with the way the lads fixed this in the second half, taking much more control of the game, and creating some good opportunities. We were also pleased with how the three lads who played their first game for the Blues performed.”
