Art Workshop To Focus On Depicting Vegetables

The Bermuda Society of Arts [BSoA] is set to host workshops with botanical artist Margaret Best, who will focus on artistic depictions of vegetables.

According to Ms Best’s website the South African born artist has taught botanical art in numerous locations including the San Diego Natural History Museum, University of Washington in Seattle and destination workshops in Italy, England, Morocco and Newfoundland.

Drawing Vegetables

BSoA said, “Almost all vegetables have enticing textural surfaces. The participants in this drawing session will focus on one particular vegetable choice in preparation for a serious botanical study. This drawing workshop will focus on proportion, perspective and botanical accuracy and hopefully an approach for a formal composition (if time and progress allow).

“It is our goal to obtain vegetable subjects fresh from the ground or with some vine attachment to provide participants with a maximum opportunity to include a range of textural elements.

• Time: 4pm – 7pm
• Members: $75 per student
• Non Members: $95 per student

Painting Vegetable Subjects in Coloured Pencil or Watercolour

BSoA said, “At the culmination of the series, Margaret will guide participants into the creation of a meaningful composition of a chosen vegetable subject. After completing a final drawing, the participants will be guided through the steps of building colour and the essential technical stages required to achieve a 3-dimensional result. As the process commences, participants will learn the appropriate timing of textural applications and markings pertaining to the subject selected.

• Members: $225 per student
• Non Members: $250 per student
