BCHC Set To Launch Movember/Bowvember

October 28, 2015

Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre is getting set to launch its 2015 Movember/Bowvember campaign, with funds and awareness to be raised throughout the month of November to address prostate cancer and men’s health in general, with a new way for men and women to participate debuted today [Oct 28].

During the month of November, Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre will still challenge men to grow a moustache and women to support the campaign, but now both men and women can choose to be champions of men’s health through BOW, where either Mo Bro’s or Mo Sista’s can wear a bowtie, supplied by Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, throughout the month and pledge to raise money and awareness for the cause.

Men and women interested in participating can do so now at the Movember Bermuda website by registering and committing to grow a moustache or wear a bowtie, or email movember@chc.bm. Participants will attend the Shave Off event on October 30 at Flanagan’s Outback from 5.30pm to 8.00pm, then grow their moustache or wear their bowtie throughout the month.

The campaign ‘MoFinale’ judging will take place on Friday, November 27 at Flanagan’s Outback from 5.30pm to 8.00pm.

“We are excited to bring back the moustache in 2015 and introduce the bowtie, a new way for men and women to participate in the Movember campaign, raise funds and continue the dialogue about men’s health,” said Tara Soares, Executive Director of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.

“All funds raised remain in Bermuda and are used to support local men’s health programmes and services. We are urging the Bermuda community to get involved, have fun and most importantly start that important conversation.”

All funds raised support the Centre’s charitable outreach initiatives around men’s health.

Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre is also hosting their fourth annual Men’s Health Fair on November 19, providing men who cannot normally afford it with access to many supporting health services and physicians. Hundreds of men have benefitted from this annual programme and Movember funding covers 100% of the cost of this fair.

Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre also offers clinical services for men who may need a bone density assessment, testicular ultrasound or a prostate biopsy. For those who are not covered by health insurance or are unable to pay, the Centre will cover the costs of these important detection tests using Movember funding.
