East End Garbage Collection Sees Delays

October 15, 2015

East end garbage collection has been delayed this week as a result of mechanical issues with some of the garbage collection trucks, according to the Ministry of Public Works, with collection expected to be completed by tomorrow [Oct 16].

A government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works would like to advise that some of the east end garbage collection has been delayed this week as a result of mechanical issues with some of the garbage collection trucks.

“Residents are encouraged to take their garbage to the Tynes Bay public drop-off if they can. It is anticipated that the east end garbage collection will be completed by Friday.

“The Ministry of Public Works apologizes for this delay and thanks the residents of the east end for their patience.”

Ministry of Public (Non)Works: If you hired private contractors to do the job properly you wouldn’t have to keep apologizing for your failure to do the work.

    • Justin says:

I’d bet anyone $10 that my recyclables are picked up today when I get home at 6pm. Any takers? That’s the difference between private and public workers.

      • Onion Juice says:

What happened to blaming Dr. Brown and PLP. Now your living in the glass house.
        LMFAO
        Fools.

        • Justin says:

Only a fool would bring Dr. Brown into this discussion. We could go on all day about how Dr. Brown screwed Bermuda over.

        • Ex Boss says:

don’t need to read between the lines. if you can. Fact of the matter is Justin is right and you know it POOR LITTLE LOST DELUDED SOLE My blue bags are picked up promptly and efficiently in a friendly manner early each cycle. regular trash is hit or miss at best

  2. Concerned says:

A man walks down the road, but stops at a peculiar sight. Two union guys are working by the side of the road, but the first is simply digging holes while the second is filling them up. Curiousity gets the best of the walker, so he asks the men what they are doing.
“We’re a post-hole crew,” says the first. “But what about the posts?”
The other union guy answers, “we’re a three man crew — Bob digs the holes, I fill them, and Charlie puts the posts in, but he’s out sick today.”

Wondering what the garbage workers story is

  3. Vigilante says:

I can handle a few delays for pickup due to mechanical issues. No problem. What I don’t understand is the need to pick up trash along North Shore Smiths/Devonshire at 830am on Wed morning. Both lanes of traffic were backed up as the truck crawled along with the men crossing the road to pick up on the opposite side. That might have been a good time to delay pickup, say by an hour, so the morning commute might conclude…n’est-ce pas?

  4. Cow Polly says:

Garbage, ferries and taxi drivers all whilst the Americas Cup puts Bermuda in the spotlight………. what a surprise!

  5. Hope says:

West end wasn’t collected until Tuesday either!!

  6. mike says:

What a lovely sight as the AC visitors leave the airport and head west.

    • Regina says:

Wake up OBA…this is NOT coincidental timing! privatize now!

  7. Always the same problem says:

We’re getting so immune to poor mechanical maintenance schedules for Government vehicles.

Last week Minister Cannonier said that Government needed to hire private truckers to deliver asphalt to the ‘Blackwatch Time Pass Slow’ project.

The time has come to stop trusting any Government with assets.

  8. Paid Blogger says:

So ALL of the trucks have issues?? It is a simple matter of if one is broken the others have to still work? Me thinks the Union is playing silly again for their own cause. Privatize the lot including the ferries and we will have on time service & people employed once again.

  9. inconvenient truth says:

Someone has to say it, might as well be me. we can hold a lavish party on front st but we cannot maintain our garbage trucks …

    • Sick of Thug Mentality says:

..and there it is. Self-entitlement 101. Hey I have an idea, why not give up some your 100+ days of sick leave so that $ can be used to maintain the trucks. Oh….that’s different? Because we should be honoured to have you actually do the job you’re paid to do.

      • NT says:

Sick of thug mentality? 100+ sick days? Could you at least try and hide your racism? Why don’t these billionaires donate some trash trucks while they are here playing with their little toys.

      • A says:

        Lol. Wut?

  10. Opt out? says:

I think they must mean that garbage collection is delayed in general. Across the island. Every week.
Where do we sign up to opt out of this government service and have our taxes reduced accordingly. I’ll take my own trash in for a lower land tax bill.

    • Scorpio says:

Yep, last week my trash wasn’t collected on Thursday either( west-end), was there till Friday. These ‘delays’ have been going on a few weeks now, as far as I can tell.

      • Dr. Who says:

It is an evil disease that spreads from ferry maintenance issues through the pipeline to the buses and on to W & E trucks. all perpetrated by incompetency, of which one is un able to admonish because their precious little feelings may be hurt, so they have to have meetings to upset the public. Prescription Privatize and say goodbye to broken bull s*** that I would bet pounds to pennies is a crock in most cases other than a way to get back at the govt and us citizens

  11. Goodness says:

It is sad to see so much trash lying around the roads. Even worse for such an important week as this one.

  12. Just pick it up. says:

I PAY TAXES for it to be picked up. Not to take to it to Tynes Bay. What about people with no cars. This is bull

  13. Some Beach says:

These guys work very hard…some girls too…whatever the issue is…i hope it can be mediated for them, certainly the work is hard enough.Their pay scale reflects less than their necessity.

  14. Raymond Ray says:

Sameshiiitdifferentday :-( This time it’s, “mechanical probleems” :-( Good luck ulot…
