Lewis took part in the second of two heats, with the first heat seeing China’s Lisha Huang — the two-time defending gold medalist — shatter the world record.

The 100m finals, which will take place this evening, will see Lewis match up against Huang, Hongzhuan Zhou from China, Angela Ballard from Australia, Samantha Kinghorn from Great Britain, Hamide Kurt from Turkey, Kelsey Lefevour from the USA, and Ilana Dupont from Canada.

In addition to the 100m, Lewis will also compete in the 400m and 800m, and Bermuda is also being represented in Rio by Yushae Desilva-Andrade, who will become the first Bermudian to compete in boccia at the Paralympic Games.
