Singleton Appointed Bermuda Broadcasting CEO
The Bermuda Broadcasting Company announced that it has appointed Patrick Singleton as its Chief Executive Officer.
BBC Chairman Christopher Perry said, “We are delighted to have Patrick at the helm. He has a wealth of experience and the energy and insight necessary to help the company grow and thrive in a challenging economy. His appointment as CEO is good for the BBC and good for Bermuda.”

Mr Singleton — a Bermudian who represented the island at three Olympic Games — has two decades of international experience in broadcasting and journalism.
He started out as a reporter for the world’s largest newspaper before helping to develop a Bloomberg News presence in the Asia-Pacific region; producing and directing Bloomberg Television and Radio operations in both Tokyo and London.
Earlier this month Mr Singleton was responsible for the Bermuda Broadcasting Company’s highly successful Olympic Games app, which enabled thousands of locals to access multiple channels of live action from Rio de Janeiro.
The company said that “innovation and modernization will be watchwords” as Mr Singleton takes the company forward.
He said, “I am excited about the opportunities ahead. This is a legacy media company with a proud history and I believe it has an important role to play in our community. So we must position the company to be relevant and add value, especially in light of how the local media industry has changed over the past decade.
“There will be challenges ahead as we embrace new technologies, streamline operations and position the BBC as a progressive, 21st Century broadcaster,” he added.
The company recently started an initiative, where ZBM’s newscasts are live streamed and posted on Bernews website, which has proved to be very popular.
Mr Singleton also praised the work of his colleague David Hills, who has been acting CEO, and will continue working for the company.
The company added, “Mr Singleton’s appointment ushers in a new era for the BBC. Careful reorganization of the company will place emphasis on good journalism, improved broadcast engineering and diverse distribution platforms.
“As the island’s main TV and radio station, the BBC takes seriously its responsibility to remain relevant, reliable and financially viable.”

Congrats Pat!
hope he doesn’t make hasty changes like he did with the talk radio shows… !
One person with a multitude of challenges ahead – not least, to keep the BBC relevant in an age of websites and, in particular, social media.
They rocked it with their coverage of the Olympics last month. About time and a breath of fresh air. Bring the old stale local media into the modern era.
Congratulations. Hopefully he will get the news department cleaned up.
