January 19, 2017

Bermuda’s Rai Simons scored for Chesterfield in a recent match, that saw the club go out of the Derbyshire Senior Cup after losing the match by a score of 4-2.

The club’s match report said, “Marcus Dinanga, Marc Newsham, Ted Cribley and Anthony Dwyer scored for the Gladiators with Rai Simons and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake finding the net for Chesterfield.

“Dinanga, who is on loan from Burton Albion, put an early header off-target.

“A defender nicked the ball away from Jake Beesley as he looked to get on the end of a pull-back from Ebanks-Blake.

“Beesley, stretching, then connected with the ball but was unable to guide it on target.

“Beesley was again in the thick of the action when he was put through on goal, but he was thwarted by keeper Phil Barnes, who made a save with an out-stretched leg.

“Matlock took the lead when Dinanga held off Laurence Maguire inside the area before beating Dylan Parkin with a low shot which went inside the keeper’s left-hand post.

“Following good work from Jamie Yates, Dinanga’s shot on the turn was straight at Parkin.

“Ebanks-Blake put a volley off-target before Simons [24] equalised, finding the net wth a low shot after running at the defence.

“Michael Williams saw his shot well saved by Parkin, diving to his right to turn the ball away.

“Matlock regained the lead in the 37th minute when Newsham’s header from a Jamie Yates cross went inside Parkin’s right-hand post.

“Ted Cribley made it 3-1 to the hosts before the hour-mark with a low shot from inside the area.

“The Spireites made a change with Curtis Morrison coming on in place of Beesley.

“Reece Mitchell tried a long-range effort which was deflected wide and Morrison got a header on target from the resulting corner, but the ball was easily claimed by Barnes.

“Parkin did well to keep out Jake Green’s low drive, turning the ball onto his left-hand post.

“Ebanks-Blake had a shot beaten away by Barnes before Anthony Dwyer made it 4-1 with a deflected effort.

“A few minutes later, Ebanks-Blake produced a good finish to reduce the arrears, but the Spireites were unable to mount a comeback.”
